Voting by cell phone

I was on line today looking for article on mobile technology and I stumbled across an ad for YouTube and the democrats running for president. For the majority of people we can be identified by our telephone numbers. Wouldn't it be easier to vote for candidates using our telephones, especially our cell phones instead of slogging over to the local polling place? Kind of like they do for American Idol. After all, aren't elections just popularity contests these days?
